Robert Gray (1952 - 2020)

I just viewed the lovely service. Rob's passing has brought so many wonderful memories of my time in Scotland. I arrived at CSEAR for a three-month visit in February of 1997 and had no idea what I'd gotten myself into! I recall they weren't sure what it would be like to have "an American woman" visiting. What I found changed my life, my thought processes, my career. The warmth of Rob, Sue, Jan, and others helped me to open my mind and heart to a different way of thinking about accounting that positively affected both my research and teaching. When I arrived, I thought I was a solid liberal...only to find I had no idea what that really meant. My inner transformation was truly profound! And the friendships that developed were so special...I remember a dinner in Rob and Sue's home where I felt so welcome! Rob introduced me to Wolfstone, which I still listen to, and Old Pulteney, which I still have in my liquor cabinet, having found it in the U.S.! I am so very sad for Sue and the family, as well as all of the people that Rob touched in his life. Rob's legacy is huge and he will live on in our hearts and minds. ~Julie Lockhart, Ashland Oregon.
